Does solar really reduce carbon dioxide emissions?

Yes. Every kWh your panels produce is a kWh that doesn’t have to come from the grid, and Victoria’s grid still relies heavily on brown coal, one of the most emissions-intensive fuels. As a rough guide, a typical 6.6 kW system in Geelong avoids several tonnes of carbon dioxide a year, roughly what a typical car produces in a year or more. The exact figure depends on how much your system produces and how quickly Victoria’s grid adds renewables. Adding a battery lets you use more of your own clean power.
