What Is an iStore Heat Pump?

An iStore heat pump doesn’t generate heat the way a standard electric or gas system does. Instead, it draws renewable heat energy from the surrounding air and transfers it into your water tank, similar to how a reverse-cycle air conditioner works, just applied to hot water.

Because it’s moving heat rather than generating it from scratch, iStore’s heat pumps run at up to 400% efficiency, using significantly less electricity than a conventional electric storage system to deliver the same hot water.

Velocity Solar has been supplying and installing iStore heat pump hot water systems across Geelong, the Bellarine Peninsula and the Surf Coast, either as a standalone upgrade or paired with a new or existing solar system for near-free daytime hot water.

Which Tank Size Do You Need?

iStore heat pumps come in two sizes to suit most Geelong households.

180L Model

Suits smaller households, units, townhouses and couples. A compact footprint makes it a good fit where outdoor space is limited.

Best for 1–3 people

270L Model

Built for family homes with higher daily hot water demand — showers, laundry and dishwashing without running short.

Best for 4–6 people

Not sure which fits your household? We’ll size it properly on-site — factoring in usage, tariff and existing solar.

Maintaining Your iStore Heat Pump

    • Sacrificial anode checks: the anode protects your tank from corrosion and gradually wears down over time — it should be checked periodically and replaced when needed.

    • Keep the air intake clear: the unit draws air across an evaporator, so keep the area around it free of leaves, mulch and debris.

    • Annual service: a yearly check-up catches small issues before they become expensive, and helps keep your warranty valid.

    • Fan and filter care: a quick clean keeps heating times fast and running costs low.

Velocity Solar offers ongoing maintenance for every iStore system we install, as a local team, we’re on hand for servicing long after installation day, not just for the sale.

iStore Heat Pump FAQs

How much does an iStore heat pump cost to run?+
iStore heat pumps typically use up to 70% less energy than a standard electric hot water system, thanks to their high energy-conversion efficiency. Your exact running cost depends on household size, hot water usage and your electricity tariff — we’ll estimate this for your home at your free assessment.

Is an iStore heat pump noisy?+
iStore units run a fan to draw air across the evaporator, producing a low hum similar to an outdoor air conditioning unit. Correct installation placement (away from bedroom windows) minimises any noise impact.

How often does an iStore heat pump need servicing?+
We recommend an annual check, plus periodic inspection of the sacrificial anode, which protects the tank from corrosion and needs replacing as it wears down over time. Velocity Solar offers ongoing maintenance for every system we install.

Can an iStore heat pump run on my existing solar system?+
Yes. Running the heat pump during daylight hours lets it draw on your solar export instead of grid power, making your hot water close to free on sunny days.

What rebates are available for an iStore heat pump in Victoria?+
Eligible Victorian homeowners can currently receive a Solar Homes hot water rebate of up to $1,000 (up to $1,400 for locally made products), stackable with federal STCs. See our full heat pump rebate guide for eligibility criteria.
