What does solar cost in Geelong?
The cost depends on the size of the system, your roof (tilt, orientation, storeys, tile or metal), the panels and inverter you choose, and whether you are adding a battery. Federal small-scale technology certificates and the current Victorian battery rebate are applied up front where you are eligible, so the price you see on our quote is the price after those incentives. We give you a fixed written quote after looking at your roof and your actual bills rather than a price per kilowatt over the phone.
How long is the payback on solar or a battery?
Payback comes down to how much power you use, when you use it, your tariff and your feed-in rate – so it is different for every home. Households that run appliances, pool pumps, air conditioning, heat pumps or EV charging during daylight, and that store the rest in a battery for the evening peak, get the most out of their system. We model your own bill data and usage pattern and show you the numbers for your home before you commit, instead of quoting a one-size-fits-all figure.
Which battery suits my home?
It depends on your daily usage, whether you have single or three phase power, how much backup you want during an outage, and how much space you have. The BYD Battery Box Premium suits homes that want a modular, stackable system that can be expanded later and paired with a compatible hybrid inverter. We also install Tesla Powerwall and SigEnergy SigenStor systems, so we can match the battery to your home rather than pushing one brand. As a guide, most of the SigenStor systems we install around Geelong and the Bellarine sit in the 24kWh to 48kWh range for larger households, with smaller configurations for average homes.
Do you use subcontractors?
No. Velocity Solar has its own in-house installation crews, led by qualified electricians. The people who turn up at your place are our own team, which is how we keep the workmanship, safety and tidiness consistent – and it is why customers can ring us afterwards and speak to the same people who did the job. Velocity Solar was founded in 2011 by A-grade electrician Brad Ott and we have completed more than 1600 installations since.
How long does the installation take?
Most home solar systems are installed in a single day. A battery retrofit to an existing solar system is usually one to two days, and a larger combined solar, battery and EV charger project can take two to three days depending on switchboard work and three phase requirements. We confirm the timeline in your quote, let you know when the crew will arrive, and walk you through how the system and app work before we leave.
Do you service the Surf Coast and the Bellarine?
Yes. We are a local Geelong company and we install right across Geelong, the Surf Coast and the Bellarine Peninsula – including Torquay, Ocean Grove, Barwon Heads, Highton, Belmont, Winchelsea and the surrounding districts. Being local means service calls and after-install support are handled by our own crews, not sent interstate.
