Solar and batteries for Torquay and Jan Juc homes
Designed for salt air, sea breezes and two-storey coastal builds
Torquay is our busiest coastal town. Most of the homes we work on here are newer two-storey builds in estates such as Quay 2 and Torquay North, plus older beach houses closer to the Esplanade and up the hill in Jan Juc.
Two things shape a Torquay design. Salt spray from Zeally Bay and Bells Beach reaches further inland than people expect, so we use corrosion-rated mounting and stainless fixings and keep inverters and batteries out of the weather where we can. And many newer homes have complex roofs with several small faces, so we often split panels across east and west to spread generation through the day.
Jan Juc homes sit on steeper, more exposed blocks with more tree cover. We check shading from the Bells Boulevard side on site rather than guessing from a satellite photo.

What Torquay households are choosing
Most Torquay customers now add a battery with their solar. Larger homes with ducted heating or a pool tend to go for 24 to 40 kWh, while smaller households are often well served by a single Tesla Powerwall 3 (13.5 kWh). Our Geelong price guide shows what these systems typically cost after rebates.
Holiday homes are different. If the house sits empty for weeks at a time, a big battery may not pay its way, and we will tell you that. We also install EV chargers and heat pump hot water, which suit the many Torquay homes with gas-free new-build designs.

Solar in Torquay and Jan Juc FAQs
Does salt air in Torquay damage solar panels?
Not if the system is chosen and installed for the coast. Salt mainly attacks cheap mounting rails, fixings and exposed electrical gear. In Torquay and Jan Juc we use corrosion-rated rails, stainless fixings and panels certified for salt-mist exposure, and we place the inverter and battery out of direct weather where possible. A yearly rinse or a professional clean also helps on front-row homes.
Can you install solar on a two-storey home in Torquay?
Yes. Most new Torquay homes are two storeys, and our own crews install on them every week. Two-storey roofs need extra safety equipment and take a little longer, which our price guide notes as one of the things that moves the price. We confirm access, scaffolding or edge protection in your written quote.
Do you install in Jan Juc as well as Torquay?
Yes. We have installed at more than 40 Jan Juc addresses, mostly solar with a battery since 2025. Jan Juc blocks are often steeper and more shaded than central Torquay, so we look at tree cover and roof pitch on site before we recommend a size.
