Velocity Solar started in Geelong in 2011, and we have never worked anywhere else. From our base in Moolap, we have watched the industry move through three rebate schemes, a battery boom, and a long list of companies who turned up, undercut everyone, and disappeared before the warranty period was out.
Our approach has not changed in that time: do it once and do it right. Every system is custom designed for the roof it is going on and the way the household actually uses power, not pulled off a price list.
Our own crews do the work, our own electricians sign it off, and we are still the people you call in five years. That is the whole business model.
How Velocity Solar Started
Velocity Solar was started by Brad Ott, an electrician by trade. After a pre-apprenticeship he spent his early years wiring brand-new houses for an electrical contractor. When his son was born he couldn’t keep working subcontractor hours, so he went out on his own, doing the electrical on new homes for local builders.
Then one of those builders went into liquidation. With workers to keep busy, he moved into solar, first subcontracting installs for other reputable companies. The first system he put in himself went on his own house, “to prove I could do it on my own house first”.
From there it grew one job at a time: about three jobs, then ten, then fifty a year, and on from there. Today we’re a team of about 25, with 16 to 17 tradies on the tools and the rest in sales and admin. That size is deliberate. It’s sustainable, and it’s the right size crew to look after our clients in the right time frame.
The goal hasn’t changed: a business that looks after its people, gives them room to grow, and when we do things, “we do it properly”.

The Finer Details
No two homes are the same, and there’s no one-size-fits-all system. We start by asking why you want solar: lower bills, the environment, blackout protection, or all three. It’s not for us to tell you, and there’s no right or wrong answer. Then we sweat the details most people never see.
Conduits inside the walls
Where we can, we hide cabling inside the walls rather than running conduit down the outside of your home.
Level, on a proper base
Inverters and batteries go on level, with a concrete slab put down where one is needed, even where others might not bother.
The right spot, not the closest
Sometimes the best place for your equipment is further from the switchboard. It's more work for us, so we do it when it's the right result for you.
Any roof, any age
Terracotta, slate, clip-lock, standing seam, tin and tile. New builds through to 1880s miners' cottages, heritage areas and coastal sites.
Your go-to for life
“Once we install your system, we're your supplier and your go-to for life.” Whether it's six months later or 15 years later, we're the people you call: monitoring, Wi-Fi reconnects, panel cleans and system checks.

Battery Storage Is No Longer the Exception
Since the federal battery rebate arrived in July 2025 we have installed 472 home batteries. Around 80 per cent of the systems we sell now include storage, up from roughly 40 per cent in the years before it.
That shift has changed how we design. A battery only pays for itself if the array, the inverter and the household’s usage pattern are sized to work together, so every quote we write starts with your actual consumption data rather than a stock package.
We install Tesla Powerwall, Sigenergy and BYD systems, and we will tell you honestly if a battery does not stack up for your household yet.
Our Own People, on Your Roof
Of our team of about 25, 16 to 17 are tradies: installers and in-house electricians. We run an average of four crews a day across the region, plus dedicated service, maintenance and heat pump teams.
Keeping the trade in-house is the only way we can genuinely stand behind an installation years after it has been signed off. There is no subcontractor to chase and no finger pointing when something needs attention.
Between our owner, general manager, sales manager and installation manager there is more than 40 years of combined experience in renewable energy, with our founder approaching two decades in solar. That depth is why the harder jobs, off-grid, commercial and awkward retrofits, tend to find their way to us.
Our Happy Customers
Between 40 and 50 per cent of our work comes from referrals and word of mouth: past customers, their neighbours and family. Add the builders and referral partners we work alongside, and around 75 per cent of our enquiries come from people who already know us.
Our customers are often building a new home, adding a battery to solar they already have, going all-electric, or heading into retirement and wanting to lock in lower bills. What they share is that they value quality work, straight answers and someone to call for years to come.

Honesty and integrity. We describe products and prices accurately, put everything in writing and stick to the New Energy Tech Consumer Code. If a battery or an upgrade does not stack up for your home, we say so.
The right solution for each client. No two homes are the same, so every system is designed around your roof, your usage and your budget rather than a stock package.
Safety on every job. Every installation is built to the Australian Standards and signed off by our own licensed electricians, backed by ongoing training and site risk assessments.
