Solar and batteries for Highton and Wandana Heights
Hillside homes, older switchboards and great northern views
Highton is the Greater Geelong suburb where we have installed the most systems. Homes range from 1960s and 1970s brick houses on the flatter streets to two-storey homes stepped down the slopes above the Barwon valley, and the newer, steeper blocks of Wandana Heights.
Older Highton homes often need a switchboard upgrade before a battery can go in, and split-level houses can mean a long cable run from the roof to the board. Sloping blocks also catch afternoon shade from neighbours and established trees, so we check each roof face rather than assume north is best.

Building or renovating on a steep Wandana Heights block? Our Wandana Heights installation guide covers access, roof types and cable routes.

What a Highton customer said
“It’s been a very economical cost saving venture that assists our club’s cashflow. It’s a win/win for the environment and allows us to put savings towards other projects. We have a large clubroom / function centre, so savings are significant, in providing cost offset.”

Upgrading an older Highton system
Many Highton roofs still carry a first-generation 1.5 to 3 kW system from the 2010s. A common job for us now is replacing it with modern panels and a hybrid inverter so a battery can be added, or adding a battery that works alongside the existing panels.
Typical prices for both are in our Geelong price guide. Most Highton customers this year chose a battery of 24 kWh or more.
Solar in Highton FAQs
Do older Highton homes need a switchboard upgrade for a battery?
Quite often. Many 1960s to 1980s Highton homes still have old fuse boards with no space for the extra circuits a battery needs. We inspect the board at the free site visit and include any upgrade in your fixed quote. It is one of the most common extra costs in established suburbs.
Should I replace my old Highton solar system or add a battery to it?
It depends on its age and inverter. If the panels are over 10 years old and the inverter is failing, replacing the system and adding a battery usually gives a better result. If the system is newer, a battery with its own inverter can be added. We check both options at the site visit.
Can you install on a steep Wandana Heights roof?
Yes. Steep and two-storey roofs need extra safety equipment and a little more time, which we include in the quote. Our own crews do the work, and we have installed on more than 35 Wandana Heights homes.
