Leopold: 8.28 kW solar + Tesla Powerwall 3 with expansion, 27 kWh (September 2026)
An older solar system in Leopold replaced with 8.28 kW of new REC panels, a Tesla Powerwall 3 and an expansion battery: 27 kWh of storage in total.
Location: Leopold, Bellarine Peninsula
Installed: September 2026
System: 8.28 kW solar with a Tesla Powerwall 3 and one expansion battery (27 kWh in total)
A local homeowner in Leopold had our team take out the home’s older solar system and replace it with 8.28 kW of new REC solar panels, a Tesla Powerwall 3 and a Powerwall 3 expansion battery. The Powerwall 3 has a solar inverter built in, so the panels connect straight to it and there is no separate inverter on the wall.
The system was installed in September 2026.

What the homeowner wanted
A modern solar system in place of the old one, with enough battery storage to run the home through the evening and backup power if the grid goes down.
What we installed
- 18 x REC Alpha Pure-RX 460 W solar panels (8.28 kW)
- Tesla Powerwall 3: 13.5 kWh battery with a built-in 10 kW solar inverter
- Tesla Powerwall 3 expansion battery: a further 13.5 kWh, for 27 kWh in total
- Tesla Backup Gateway 2, which switches the home to battery power during a blackout
- Bird-proof mesh around the panels
- Installed by our team: designed and installed by our installation team.

Results so far
Results for 10 to 19 October 2026. Over these ten days the home used 206 kWh of electricity and took just 12 kWh of that from the grid, so about 94% of the home’s power came from its own solar and batteries. The panels made 216 kWh over the same ten days, almost all of it used in the home or stored in the batteries.
Ten days in spring is an early snapshot, so we will update these figures once the system has a few months of data.
