How do feed in tariffs work, are they worth while?
A feed-in tariff is the credit your retailer gives you for solar power you don’t use and send back to the grid. Rates have fallen a long way, from over 60 cents per kWh under early schemes to very low rates today. Every kWh you use yourself is worth far more than one you export, because you avoid buying it at the full retail price. So feed-in tariffs are now a small bonus, not the main reason to go solar. A battery lets you store daytime solar for the evening instead of exporting it cheaply.
